For as long as the internet has been in existence it has been powered by people (humans) and our need to communicate. However, over the next 25 years the growth of the internet is going to be dominated not by us, but by machines (things) and their new ability to communicate with each other. We call this the internet of things or IoT for short and as it stands now by 2020 everyone on the planet will be connected.
What types of devices will be connected, how will they connect to each other? How will this impact where we live? Or what about how we get from place to place? There’s no end to the possibilities that the IoT is poised to offer.
Jabil aggregated data from 14 different sources including Gartner and Mashable (to name a few) looking at what we can expect from the internet of things, the types of devices that will be available and how this will impact our cities, our homes and our economy.
