A recent Harvard Business Review Article perfectly surmised the term when the author, David Armano stated, “Mobility trumps mobile. The difference between mobility and mobile is like the difference between hardware and software. Mobile is linked to devices — it is always one thing, wherever it is. But mobility changes with context.”
“Mobile itself,” Armano continues to write, “is the nuts, bolts, and infrastructure, while mobility is the context which determines if it all works together or doesn’t.”
The EDU space is no different in regards to the terms being verbalized today. Districts all over the country are meeting to figure out how to provide wireless networking solutions for their schools. They not only want to have the technology but they want the technology to properly be contextualized for their students’ learning.
So when we discuss mobility around our schools the questions lies: how do we properly build mobile, the “nuts and bolts” as it is, that then allows our students to have mobility? Having a mobility strategy should be the focus before any proper school wireless network design. As technology changes, the need for having a mobility strategy in place becomes clearer.
